Aeklys One: a new French ring dedicated to contactless payment

April 25, 2021 by Olivier - Journal du Geek

Not everyone wants to carry a smartphone or even a connected watch to pay without contact. The French company Icare offers with the Aeklys One a simple ring that integrates everything you need to pay with NFC!

Aeklys One was designed with Philippe Starck, the famous French designer partner of Icare since almost the beginning of the adventure for this Corsican start-up born in 2016. Its utility is very simple: it allows contactless payments to be made securely, with the Wave Control system that prevents the ring from being copied.

Without battery but with lots of ideas

Waterproof and without battery, this ring will thus avoid its wearer to take out a wallet, a smartphone or a bank card. All that is required is to place the ring near the payment terminal (all those that are contactless compatible will also be compatible with the ring). Communication takes place via an NFC chip; data transmission is protected by a 256-bit AES encryption process and takes place via a proprietary and patented antenna design.

This new payment method is free of charge and works anywhere in the world. The companion application retains the geolocation of transactions as well as their history. It also offers real-time notifications and a function that allows the ring to be deactivated, in case of loss or theft for example.

In addition to a sober design (but beware of the bulk, we're talking about a rather imposing ring), the Aeklys One has a patented anti-viral and anti-bacterial coating. It destroys 99.8% of microbes, viruses and coronaviruses. The Aeklys One is available at only 49 €, but you have to register to be notified when it is in stock.

Icare already had a first ring to its credit, it was the Aeklys All Short, still intended for contactless payment, but with some additional functions such as a digital business card, computer unlocking, or a private concierge. A product sold for 149 €.

Dec 3, 2020 by Marc Odilon - Neozone

In Ajaccio, Icarus finally takes flight

Sep 11, 2020 by Marine Stromboni - La Provence

They proved their detractors wrong, all those who said their project would never see the light of day. On Monday at the Fnac in Ajaccio, Jérémy Neyrou, president and co-founder of Icare Technologies, and his team launched Aeklys by Stark. A ring that is intended to replace keys, badges and other means of payment, with a modern and pure, almost futuristic design by Philippe Stark. After years of research and development, refinement and about thirty patents filed, Aeklys by Stark finally meets its public.

"We had launched a production of 2,000 units," counts Jérémy Neyrou. They are already sold out and we are re-launching another 2,000." In addition to these new and future users, the 100% French production ring is already adorning the index finger of just over 150 testers closely monitored by Icare Technologies. "We call them once a week to get their feedback in order to adapt to the uses," says Jérémy Neyrou. But Aeklys by Stark is also a jewel and it is a truly differentiating element, ostentatious. It's not just the functional side."This is nevertheless essential and is already being expanded (see opposite).

For Icare Technologies, whose investors include Smalt Capital of Marseilles and footballer Blaise Matuidi, is already looking to the future.Philippe Stark has designed more than 70 models of rings," continues the president of the Ajaccio-based company. We would like to launch the production of more feminine models for example. Because even if this model is unisex and therefore worn by women, it is quite massive." Until then, lovers of new technologies, early adopters and others can get their own "augmented humanity and freedom" ring at the Fnac in Ajaccio, but also online, on the Icare Technologie website in particular.

Currently, Aeklys by Stark is equipped with a bank payment, public transport, computer unlocking, business card and concierge function. In a few weeks, the "gym" function should be available and before the end of the year, the car management. Other uses are being developed or tested such as alarm, fuel, parking, tickets and boarding passes or home automation systems.

Aeklys by Stark can be deactivated at any time via an application. It is waterproof, does not need to be recharged and has a lifespan of five years.
